  Renault Group

Road safety at Renault is one of the key elements of the Group’s strategy. It has been built up from over 60 years of research and development and is proof of Renault’s commitment to promoting quality of life and innovation for all.

The group has developed recognised knowledge and expertise in the area and has identified sustainable mobility and road safety as priority development axes.

In addition to the technological approach, Renault develops and deploys complementary societal road safety actions. Vehicle design and technologies are of course important, but constitute only part of the safe systems approach to road safety management.

Renault’s first societal programmes began in 2000 with the launch of the Safety for All child awareness campaign. In 2004, the Group established a Road Safety Policy Department to coordinate actions within the domain. This Department, which now represents one of the four pillars of the Group’s corporate social responsibility programme, is managed by a medical doctor with over 30 years experience in road safety, accidentology and rehabilitation.

In 2005, Renault confirmed its international commitment by joining the « Global Road Safety Partnership », a programme for the promotion of road safety in low and middle income countries, supported by the International federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Proof of the commitment is also to be found in Renault Group’s support of the United Nations’ “Decade of Action for road safety 2011-2020 », a programme which aims to stabilise then reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities by 2020. Renault was one of the first companies to officially support this campaign.

In addition to a regional vision, Renault also looks to reply to specific road safety issues in the host countries and regions of the Group’s industrial and commercial activities. By participating in the development of road safety programmes and by identifying and dealing with the specific, observed risk factors, Renault contributes to the management of the road safety issues that can arise from an increase in mobility.

The Renault Foundation is another pillar of the Group’s corporate social responsibility programme, which targets the development and deployment of higher education programmes. The Renault Foundation’s mission is to create a sustainable link between the Group and both French and international academic institutions. The Renault Foundation develops and supports innovative education programmes in two key areas: multicultural management and sustainable mobility

In particular, the foundation aims to:

  • promote cultural exchange between France, Europe and the rest of the world;
  • contribute to the foreign dissemination and promotion of French and European culture;
  • encourage and spread academic knowledge in the legal, scientific, technological, management and political science fields;
  • partake in the training of young students who will contribute to the foreign dissemination of French and European cultures;
  • and develop links to foreign universities
