Education programmes
The Chair offers a recognised Master’s diploma course in Road Safety Management consisting of a core curriculum and options – designed around the following modules:

• Introduction to road safety
• Management and road safety
• Prevention
• Vehicle factors
• Infrastructure and road environment factors
• Traffic management
• Human factors
• The regulatory framework
• Traffic policing
• Crash and post-crash care
• Road safety management
• Road safety policy and planning
• Action plan deployment and monitoring
• Funding road safety
• Capacity building
• Information systems and research
• Epidemiology and statistics applied to road safety
• Database design and management
• Road safety research

The academic programme will be supplemented by an internship, linked to a professional or research project, and a dissertation. This practical work will count for one third of the overall evaluation.

The Chair will also offer postgraduate certificates and diplomas in road safety, as well as tailored short courses for specific needs.

Road Safety Observatory
The Chair will undertake to develop a comprehensive data and knowledge base covering all aspects of road safety, in order to identify and promote best practice within the region. The Chair will focus principally, although not exclusively on the following areas:

• Legislation and regulations
• Information systems
• Finance and insurance
• Police force professional training
• Road user training and awareness
• Road safety campaigns and their promotion
• Road traffic injury data

Research Programmes
The Chair will run a dynamic programme with research carried out by its academic staff, through student professional and research projects, and in response to specific themes identified by road safety stakeholder partner. Research domains will include:

• Vehicle and infrastructure factors
• Driver behaviour
• Post crash care and rehabilitation
• Documentation and analysis of Road Safety Observatory themes.
